✨ Curtain Call Ready: Tips for Prepping Dance Costumes Before the Revue ✨

The big day is almost here, and we couldn’t be more excited to see your dancers shine on stage! Before we raise the curtain, let’s make sure everyone is fully prepared—starting with costumes. A well-prepared costume helps dancers feel confident and look their best under the lights. Here are some helpful tips for getting those costumes revue-ready:

✅ 1. Do a Full Costume Check

Before the show, lay out each costume and do a head-to-toe check. Make sure every piece is accounted for:

  • Costume (top, bottom, leotard, etc.)

  • Tights (bring an extra pair if possible!)

  • Shoes (correct style and color for each dance)

  • Headpieces or Hair Accessories

  • Undergarments (nude leotards, sports bras, etc.)
Use a checklist for each routine to avoid last-minute scrambling!

👗 2. Hang Tutus and Skirts Upside Down

To preserve their shape and fluff, hang tutus upside down by the crotch or waistband. This helps maintain volume and prevents flattening in garment bags or closets.

💨 3. Remove Wrinkles the Easy Way

No steamer? No problem! Hang costumes in the bathroom while you run a hot shower (but don’t get them wet!). The steam will help release wrinkles naturally. Just be sure to give the costume some space and time to dry out completely before packing.

🎒 4. Pack Smart

Use a clear garment bag for each costume and label it with the dancer’s name and the name of the routine. Place accessories in small labeled bags and clip or tie them to the hanger so nothing gets lost. Shoes and tights should go in a separate dance bag, ready to grab and go.

💡 5. Do a Final Try-On

A few days before the revue, have your dancer try on each costume to ensure everything still fits well and is comfortable. This gives you time to make any small adjustments or sew loose straps if needed.

🧼 Bonus Tip: Leave the Cleaning for After the Show

Unless a costume is visibly dirty, it’s best to wait until after the performance to clean it. Washing too early could risk color bleeding, shrinking, or changing the fit.

With a little prep and organization, your dancer will be ready to take the stage with confidence and sparkle. Let the countdown to the revue begin!
